THINGS HAPPENING ON THE GOLF COURSE
Although Drew has moved on to Cutter Creek in Snow Hill, things continue to move forward
here at Birchwood. The ponds thanks to the wells that are continuing to feed #11 & #12, have reached capacity and now
have begun to flow into #18. We have calculated that about 30 gallons a minute, which equates to nearly 44,000 gallons a day
overflowing into #18. We have put an inch stick in front of #18 green so you can monitor the rise of the pond if that is of
interest to you. Other projects include pruning of trees and removal of the dead limbs that are hanging around the course.
We had plans to continue the stonework around the backside of the proshop and cart staging area but until the new superintendent
is hired that project is on hold. Many thanks go out to Conrad, Larry, Carlton and Jose for keeping the ship afloat during the
period between Drew and his successor. They have done an incredible job!
SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH UPDATE –
ROD RAMSEY
We have interviewed five
candidates and we should have a person in place not later than the first of February. Drew has left our course and crew with
excellent focus and direction for the week or two between superintendents. We had nine candidates apply for the position and
most come highly qualified and recommended for the position. Thank you to the following committee members who helped in the
interview process, William O’conney, Rock Cooper, Drew Ramsey, Cliff Futrell, Greg Clifton and PGA Professional Randy
Davis. The March newsletter should reveal our new superintendent and his comments in this section.
