SPRING FLING KICKOFF TOURNAMENT
It seems like just yesterday
we were finishing up 2007 yet here we go in 2008. The first event, Spring Fling Kickoff, Will be the weekend of March 8th
& 9th. The format will be a favorite of the membership, a two-ball Texas Scramble. Two person team with a superball
format off the tee box for both players, then playing your own ball once the tee shot is selected until the ball is holed
out. Players will play with 50% of their handicap. Cost of the event is $75.00 per player to include carts, lunch both days,
prize payback and Calcutta (cash payback). Teams will be flighted
after Saturday’s round. Tee time on Saturday is a 10:00 Shotgun and a 1:00 Shotgun on Sunday. Teams can be made up of
any two players regardless of gender but must be 18 years of age to compete.
TEE ASSIGNMENTS IN 2008
This has been a HOT topic at all of the Golf committee meetings over the last
several years. After talking to most of the local golf professionals in the area and with the current golf committee, we have
adopted the following policy that will be adhered to in 2008. Players that are 60 years of age will have the right to play
from the gold tees in Birchwood sponsored tournaments. If you do not have an established handicap from the gold tees and you
anticipate playing in tournaments, I strongly encourage you to play some golf from these tees and turn your scores in to get
that handicap established. If not, there is a formula given to PGA professionals that will allow us to assign you a handicap.
The saying last year we used “ From where most of your golf is played from” is no more.
THE EAGLE HAS LANDED
For those of you that didn’t
play golf the weekend of January 12th & 13th, what a treat you missed. Birchwood was graced with
a visit from an adult Bald Eagle. He hung around #18 pond off and on both Saturday and Sunday. Roger White got some excellent
pictures if anyone is interested. We have one of them on display in the proshop.
MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
Through the month of February
we will be offering a reduction in the initiation fees to join Birchwood. Our regular initiation of $600 will be cut in half
until March 1st. Applications may be picked up in the golf shop or in the business office.
BUSINESS NEWS
For the new members and the
not so new members at Birchwood I want to reintroduce our business manager, Terri Crane, who is now a full time employee.
Terri was part time and that position went full time at the end of 2007. Terri came to us from the Cliffs of Glassy where
she was there full time bookkeeper. She has done a wonderful job since being here. If there are any questions or concerns
with your billing or business questions, Terri will be the one to call. Her number is 459-3910 x 105. We are fortunate to
have her here at Birchwood.
